Driving advice please. (fairly new driver)?

I got my license pretty recently and I'm still nervous about going on the highway alone (I live in NYC). Any advice?Driving advice please. (fairly new driver)?
Good. Nervous is not a bad thing. What you need to do is have an experienced driver ride with you a few more times on the highway.

Your nerves will calm with practice. Do not drive anywhere until you are comfortable.

Have fun, Be safe.Driving advice please. (fairly new driver)?
First of all driving on the highway is EASIER than driving on surface streets.

Everyone is going the same direction. There aren't any stoplights.

All you gotta do is stay in your lane and drive. With that said there are two tough parts about highway driving. That is getting on and changing lanes.

When getting on the highway make sure you get up to the highway speed ON THE RAMP. That will enable you to merge much safer.

When you're changing lanes make SURE to check your blind spots. Before you change lanes check your mirror then turn on your indicator(if you have a clear spot) then glance over your shoulder. If nothing is there then go.
Go at 2 AM or so when there is less traffic. That way you'd get more adjusted to going highway speeds and driving like that. Yeah you'd still have to get used to the merging in, but at least the speed wouldn't make you uncomfortable anymore. After that it is simply about practice.
Drive like ya did on the driving test and you'll be fine, usually.
It just takes a little time on the road getting a feel for it all yourself. You'll learn to adapt to your environment, just as anything else. Just get out there, pay attention and be safe, and you'll be fine.
