Considering buying a new desktop, need advice?

I am considering getting a new desktop (i have a screen) and i need some help. i am in college, so i'm going to have a lot of papers on my computer. i also avidly play the sims 2 and am going to get some more expansion packs, so i need a ? high graphics and video card ? and lots of memory. i would also like my computer to be fast, so something like a 3.0 gb or whatever it is. oh, and also more hard drive, since mine is an 80 gb hard drive. also, i think i prefer hp over dell or emachines or anyone, if that helps. can anyone help me please?Considering buying a new desktop, need advice?
I would suggest a dual core system with at least 2 gigs of ram. There are alot of good sites you can customize your own machines and are in my opinion the way to go. This is a link to the site I used for my last computer.

consider a mac mini, and run VMWare to emulate Windows.

Buy new laptop from dell or hp.
I absolutly love our Gateway, and my husband is in the army and has these humungous skamatics ( spelling? ) and he has boxes of them, so he had to have a lot of memory. We have not had one issue, and we have had it over a year now, it came with good security and we were able to purchase an extended warranty and extended memory for next to nothing.
Find someone who can build them up. if u buy the parts and they build it cheap you can build a good computer for less than the shop buying price. i got a 拢1300 computer for 拢600 because it was built by a friend.
