i would start with rice cereal to try things out. not his first or last feeding of the day. take a little cereal and mix it with some formula and spoon feed your son. start with this for one time a day for a few days to see how he is doing. if he tolerates it well, do it for a few feedings a day, but not the first or the last, it can cause gas. aslo, it may cause constipation, keep your eye in him. if you have a problem with this, you can try baby oatmeal cereal.
after the cereal, if he is tolerating it well, you can try baby food, the fruits and veggies. you want to try one a day and wait 3-4 days before trying a new one, this way you can keep an eye on him for allergic reactions to anything.
i would do cereal for 2 weeks and then start with baby food. the cereal will help your son learn how to eat with a spoon instead of a bottle or nursing, and should also satisfy the hunger so you won't have to feed him every 2 hours. just remember to start slow and work up, new things for babies should always be done slowly. hope i have helped, best of luck! and always watch closely for any reactions, allergic or stomach problems like constipation. good luck!!!New mom, need advice on starting son on baby food?
The way I did it with my three was to start out with some rice cereal. It gives them the practice they need to start eating the solids and has much needed iron. Veggies were next. One at a time. Give about three days with each one before introducing another one. Then go to the fruits.

I would start giving him the baby food,, like the fruits and vegetables just a little at first and still give the bottle too. They have a baby cereal that works good too. It won't hurt him. And I bet you, yourself will get a little more rest also, cause I know that can get very tiring.
Start off once a day and do it when he is not screaming hungry. Make sure he tollerates it well and then you can increase to 2-3 times a day. Feed him ';meals'; just like you would have. Breakfast lunch and dinner with bottle in between. Don't feed him cereal with every bottle you give him. Just increase the food to amounts where he is satisfied.
Well, when you do start, make sure to try one food at a time. And try to use each food for at least one week. This way if he has an allergic reaction, you know which food it was. I started my daughter on cereal in her bottle at 1 1/2 months, and cereal from the spoon at 3 months. She's 4 1/2 months now, and eats bananas, apples, pears and sweet potatoes. If you haven't used baby cereal yet, I would probably start with that though. Good Luck!
u can start off in the morning after his bottle maybe like some applesauce, then around lunch time maybe some carrots or green beans( my daughter loved the green beans) gerber baby food is labeled in stages from 1-3 i believe so start with 1 and just go from there, have fun and discover what your baby likes and dislikes...
I started once or twice a day. Usually some baby cereal (mixed with breast milk or formula) with a little applesauce or pears...then every few days you can add a new fruit or veggie. Stay with the stage 1 foods for a few weeks until you see how baby handles them.... it's fun but messy.
- from mom of 4!
